ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Strong concepts have always been integral in my work. And though I have no formal art training, my background in design and architecture has instilled an insatiable desire to create sensual and emotional, but more often than not conceptual.
Mundane, sometimes overlooked images act as my source of inspiration. Interesting, strange, non-traditional they may be…but a rusty gate, a cracked sidewalk or a fallen oak represents the notion of honest beauty.
My latest mixed media works of art incorporate a variety of photographic images and materials. These elements enable me to alter or enhance the original subject while allowing the viewer to interpret and assimilate each piece in one’s own way.
Many of my pieces retain part of their photographic quality. They can appear ephemeral and hidden or stark and aggressive. Layers create depth and transparency while variations and inconsistencies reference humble beginnings. Therefore, each piece becomes a metaphor for life enriched with subtle illusions and fragmented memories.
