Welcome to Bella Vista’s May 2012 'ThisMonth'

If you enjoy driving around Asheville, then this is the month for checking out artist's studios in and around Asheville. Here are three that I can think of just off the top of my head.East Asheville Studio Tour, May 5th & 6th, Weaverville Art Safari, May 12th & 13th, and Kenilworth Neighorhood Tour, the 26th & 27th. The weather should be really great for driving around too!

Congratulations to Sally Jacobs. Her paintings were recently accepted by Prince Street Gallery in NYC. We love Sally's paintings. Also, congratulations to Sara Linda Poly who just completed her installation of two large works in the Community Hospital at Ft. Belvoir, MD. AND we will be receiving new plein air paintings by Sara...yah. We have some very talented artists.

Our Garden update: Glenn and I couldn't believe that our area was under a freeze warning just 1 week ago. We were surprised because it is pretty late in the year, and we have had a very mild winter. However, we had to rush out to buy plastic to protect our fruit trees, and we foolishly had just planted starter plants. (Side note: usually I start with seeds, but this year I killed 3 different batches of seeds and Glenn couldn't bare to hear me whine, so he bought the starter plants.) The night of the freeze, Glenn rushed out the house right before bedtime to cut, cook,& eat asparagus from our yard. Even though he wasn't hungry, he said he couldn't stand the thought that the asparagus would have frost damage. (O.K.?) Anyway, we looked up the average last freeze date for Asheville, and April 15th was listed. Although, after much discussion with a bunch of garden customers, who were shopping for plants, we found out that many locals don't plant till May 1st. So, I think from here on out we will put starters out May 1st, and not be fooled with mild winters again.
