Christopher Scardino
Artist Statement
My current body of work is a small part of the constant stream of images that rush through my consciousness. In my attempt to retrieve these hidden messages, I try not to edit their content or manipulate their structure. I merely am reporting to the viewer what I have seen. Certainly, many of the images are taken from my childhood memory vault that is steeped in National Geographic, newspaper clippings, the almight Television, and various medical textbooks.
For years, I chose not to be capable of reading these "messages" and painted a very sober, almost cursory glance of nature. Now, I attempt to put forth a possible narrative and, in my mind, a potential reality and the viewer can discover for themselves what this means. I hope that this work will spawn other ideas and that this visual experience will make it possible for individuals to adopt more of a global world view. With respect to the nucleus of my work, I hope to awaken an emotion inside us all.
